About the Bureau
Our Bureau has been providing free, impartial advice since 1939, and continues to deliver an essential service, empowering local people to navigate the cost of living crisis and many other challenges. As an independent charity, this is only possible thanks to the support of our volunteers, including trustees.
We have grown and modernised in the past decade, launching a variety of projects and forming innovative partnerships. These have enabled us to expand and diversify our services, working in Stirling city centre, in rural outreach locations and co-located with partners, as well as providing advice by email and telephone. We work with partners ranging from NHS addiction and mental health services to local food banks.
Money Advice Assistant
The Money Advice Assistant will support with the heavy and growing demand of the Money Advice function, driven by the cost-of-living crisis. The Money Advice Assistant will increase our debt advice capacity and assist with lower-level aspects of the debt resolution process, including:
- Single-debt resolutions
- Pro rata repayment proposals
- Drafting letters to creditors and chasing responses
- Compassionate write-offs
- Income & expenditure assessments and trigger figures
- Policy in Practice Better Off calculations
The above activities will improve the efficiency of the Bureau's Money Advice service.
The current high and increasing levels of client contact, driven by the socio-economic impact and enduring legacy of the pandemic amplified by the cost-of-living crisis, mean that this response is necessary to meet demand.
In 2024/25, the Bureau supported 1,714 debt clients, representing 12.23% of total footfall. This was a 27% increase on the 2023/24 figure of 1,350 clients (9.14% of footfall). Consumer indebtedness in the current financial year is set to be even higher. The Money Advice Assistant will be supported by a small team of volunteer administrators and the Gambling Harms Adviser, with overall line management provided by the CEO.
